So this post is coming like ages later than it was supposed to but what the heck!
I don’t have the 10 to 8 job drill now and the most important thing on my list is writing as much as I have always wanted to during this time #causenomoreexcuses 😛 . So starting with the best drive I have ever had and I am not saying that just cause of the scenery and the beautiful journey but also cause of the gratitude I felt for life, friends and just about everything during these 5 hours.
The drive from McLeodGanj to Khajjiar is about 4 hr 20 mins and I think we did it in 5 hours. We made several stops along the way, literally several, whenever we smelled tea, or when a swift turn gave us a birds-eye view of the magnificent mountains of Himachal, whenever there was a natural water spring that we literally jumped into and shivered for the next half an hour, when we saw kids walking down those narrow mountain roads to their homes after school, when we saw an old lady selling carrots by the side, when we encountered a bunch of men sitting by the side enjoying the leisure afternoons and the glimpses of sunshine. It was just amazingly beautiful at each and every turn.
There was a lot of fun and drama in these 5 hours and there was also the self-realization that happiness is in the small things that life showers upon us every day. You don’t have to be at a remote island sunbathing, you can enjoy the sun from wherever you are and whenever you want. We get so engrossed in our everyday chores at times that we fail to see the little things surrounding us, things that we should be grateful for. The kids I met on the way were traveling through those dangerous mountain roads with buses and cars going up and down in full speeds and yet there they were singing and laughing down the broken paths. The old lady sitting by the side selling carrots, she couldn’t understand us all she could say was 20Rs. and yet she was the most humble and welcoming person I have met.
I realized post that drive why people run away to mountains in search of peace, love and life! Thank you Joshi for inviting me on the trip and Thank you Charan for the wonderful ride. Himachal I will be back!!
