Aina Mahal (18th-century) and Parag Mahal (19th-century) are located next to each other in Bhuj, Gujarat, India. Built by Rao Lakhpatji and Rao Pragmalji II in 1761 and 1879 respectively. You will see several beautiful pieces and architectural details in both these Mahals ranging from marble adorned floors, intricate mirror work on walls, gilded ornaments, jali work and much more. Every inch you lay eyes on is beautiful and tell a unique story.
These palaces were badly damaged in the 2001 Gujarat earthquake. Some portions that were not so badly damaged had been restored and houses the museum, displaying the antiques from the time and other portions were undergoing restoration. Visitors are allowed to enter the main palace halls and ascend the bell tower, which offers views of the city. For the Bollywood fans out there, scenes from the Bollywood blockbusters Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Lagaan, as well as a number of Gujarati films, were shot in the palace.
