The Spirited Wanderer!!

My soul wanders in the hidden places,
Places that are far and wide.
My feet tread the unknown path,
Path that remains undefined.

The luggage encapsulates the stories,
Stories that I write along the way.
I wonder what relation I have with beings I meet along the path,
For I see the life from the lens of my past.

Khalil Gibran’s The Prophet

Khalil Gibran, the Arab writer who not only is deemed as the most liberating force in Arabic literature but also one of the most widely read authors in English. The Prophet is deemed to be his masterpiece and it is one of the most highly regarded poems of modern times. Born in the North of Lebanon on 6 January 1883 Gibran was scared when his book was published in 1923 as he had an opinion that “People are hungry for beauty, not for truth”.  The “strange little book” as he called it sold all 1,300 copies of its first edition in the first month of publication and went on to outsell all others in the 20th century except Bible.

The Prophet is a book of 26 prose poetry fables closely interwined with his own life and thoughts. Almustafa, has lived in the foreign city of Orphalese for 12 years and is about to board a ship which will carry him home. He is stopped by a group of people, with whom he discusses topics such as life and the human condition. The book is divided into chapters dealing with variety of topics like love, marriage, work, joy and sorrow, pain, friendship, talking, beauty, religion, and death. I wanted to share a few of his quotes that I loved a lot while reading the book.

“For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you.
Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning.”

“You give but little when you give of your possessions.
It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.”

“Work is love made visible.”

“Your reason and your passion are the rudder and the sails of your sea fearing soul.”

“Much of your pain is self-chosen.
It is bitter potion by which the physician within you heals your sick self.”

“You talk when you cease to be at peace with your thoughts.”

“Yesterday is today’s memory and tomorrow is today’s dream.”

“Your daily life is your temple and your religion.
Whenever you enter into it take with you your all.”

“Man’s need change, but not his love, nor his desire that his love should satisfy his  desire that his love should satisfy his needs.”

“Oftentimes you think & speak of night as the season of rest,
yet in truth night is the season of seeking & finding.”

I am hoping these quotes would have given you enough food for thought and made you wanna read more. Have a lovely & kick ass September people.
